One of the most common questions parents ask is simply: when should my child start school? The honest answer is that age is only part of the picture — readiness matters just as much.
The right age for pre-primary
At NCFE, admission to Pre-Primary begins from 3 years of age, with children moving into the next stage by calendar year. This aligns with CBSE early-years guidelines and gives children a gentle, age-appropriate start.
Signs your child is ready
Can stay comfortably away from parents for short periods
Communicates basic needs and follows simple instructions
Shows curiosity and enjoys playing alongside other children
Is developing independence with routines like eating and washing hands
Not every child ticks every box on day one — and that is perfectly normal. A good early-years programme meets children exactly where they are.
What great early years look like
NCFE follows an ECCE (Early Childhood Care and Education) approach — a play-based foundation for primary school that supports a child's social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. Learning happens through stories, music, art, movement and hands-on exploration, not worksheets and pressure.
Just as importantly, the early years build a child's confidence and love of learning. With a low teacher–student ratio, every child is known by name and supported as an individual.
How to apply
Start with an enquiry, visit the campus to see our pre-primary spaces, and complete a short, play-based interaction with your child. There is no entrance exam at this stage.
