For NCFE registrations in 2027–28, the age reference date is 1 June 2027. Your child’s completed age on that date determines whether they meet the stated age requirement for the requested early-years grade or Grade 1.
This guide explains NCFE’s registration criteria. Use the same date when enquiring at CV Raman Nagar, Indiranagar, Mandur or Ballari (Bellary).

The age requirements at a glance

Pre-Primary 1: 3 completed years on 1 June 2027; born on or before 1 June 2024.
Pre-Primary 2: 4 completed years on 1 June 2027; born on or before 1 June 2023.
Pre-Primary 3: 5 completed years on 1 June 2027; born on or before 1 June 2022.
Grade 1: 6 completed years on 1 June 2027; born on or before 1 June 2021.
These dates describe the age requirement. Meeting it does not confirm a place; campus and grade availability must also be checked with the team.
What does “completed age” mean?
Count the birthdays your child has reached by 1 June 2027. A birthday later in June, or later in the year, has not yet been reached on the reference date.
For example, a child born on 1 June 2021 turns six on 1 June 2027 and meets the stated Grade 1 age requirement. A child born on 2 June 2021 is still five on the reference date, even though their sixth birthday is the next day.
The same distinction applies to Pre-Primary 1. A child born on 1 June 2024 turns three on the reference date. A child born on 2 June 2024 turns three after it.
Worked example: checking Pre-Primary 2
These hypothetical birthdays show how to use the same reference date:
Born 20 May 2023: the child turns four on 20 May 2027, before the reference date. They meet the stated Pre-Primary 2 requirement of four completed years on 1 June 2027.
Born 20 June 2023: the child is still three on 1 June 2027. Their fourth birthday comes later, so they do not yet meet that stated requirement.
Use your child’s own birth-certificate date, then ask the campus to confirm the appropriate grade. Meeting the age requirement does not reserve a place.
Use the date on the birth certificate
Before sending an enquiry, keep your child’s birth certificate nearby and enter the date accurately. Check that the date in your enquiry and application form matches the certificate.
A simple way to prepare is to note:
The date of birth on the certificate.
The requested academic year: 2027–28.
Your child’s completed age on 1 June 2027.
The grade you would like the campus team to check.
If your child is moving from another school, also share their current grade and previous report card. Ask the campus team to confirm the appropriate placement and the documents needed for the application.
Ask about NCFE’s grade names
NCFE’s registration information uses Pre-Primary 1, Pre-Primary 2 and Pre-Primary 3. If you are searching using terms such as nursery, LKG or UKG, give the team your child’s date of birth and ask which NCFE grade to select.
That keeps the enquiry clear when different schools use different names for the early years.
Common questions from parents
Should I count age at the end of the calendar year?
For NCFE’s 2027–28 registration cycle, use completed age on 1 June 2027. A birthday later in 2027 does not count as a birthday already reached on that date.
My child’s birthday is close to the cut-off. What should I do?
Send the campus team the date of birth and requested grade. Ask them to confirm the appropriate next step before completing the paid application form.
Does meeting the age requirement guarantee admission?
Admission also depends on availability in the requested campus and grade and completion of the registration process. The age check is an early part of that process.
Where does the campus visit fit?
The six steps are Enquire, Fill in the application form, Arrange a campus visit, Programme briefing, Meet the Principal, and Offer of admission. The campus visit is step 3.
Get your grade query checked
Read the 2027–28 registrations information or send an enquiry with your child’s date of birth, current grade if applicable, requested grade and preferred campus.
The campus team can check the details with you so that you begin with the right application.
