Nurturing Mindful, Joyful, and Lifelong Learners

As part of our ongoing commitment to the holistic development of our students, we are placing special focus this month on two meaningful habits that greatly enrich a child’s growth—mindfulness and reading.

Mindfulness is a simple yet powerful practice that helps children stay calm, attentive, and emotionally balanced. By learning to pause, breathe, and become aware of their thoughts and feelings, students develop resilience and clarity. At school, teachers are incorporating short mindfulness breaks during class transitions, allowing students to settle their minds and re-engage with learning. We encourage you to try similar practices at home—perhaps a minute of mindful breathing before homework or a short gratitude reflection before bedtime. These small routines create a positive daily rhythm and help children face challenges with confidence and ease.

Alongside mindfulness, we are also fostering the transformative habit of reading. Reading does far more than build vocabulary—it sparks imagination, strengthens focus, and nurtures creativity and critical thinking. At NCFE, we actively promote reading beyond textbooks, encouraging students to explore storybooks and other enriching materials. To support this, our NCFE-CVR students have launched a Student-Led Book Club, offering a wonderful platform for children to share their reading experiences, recommend books, and celebrate the joy of reading together.

In today’s digital age, reading remains one of the most effective ways to build comprehension and sustained attention. Parents can greatly support this by setting aside dedicated family reading time and modeling a love for books. Even 15–20 minutes of daily reading can make a significant difference in a child’s academic and personal growth.

Together—parents, teachers, and students—we can nurture mindful learners who approach each day with calmness, curiosity, and joy, and who carry with them a lifelong love for reading.

FAIRYTALE SAFARI

The Pre-Primary Department organised an engaging and imaginative “Fairy Tale Safari” to introduce young learners to the magic of stories and the joy of interactive learning. The session was led by Ms. Shaji Ramesh and Ms. Sofy Thachil, whose dynamic storytelling brought the characters to life and captivated the children.

Ms. Shaji Ramesh narrated an insightful story that highlighted the dangers of excessive mobile use and the risks associated with social media. Through simple language and relatable examples, she helped children understand the importance of balanced screen time and being cautious with online interactions. Her narration was both entertaining and educational, providing valuable lessons in a child-friendly manner.
